Department store burns down in central Hobart

The Myer department store in Hobart is currently on fire. They've sealed off most of the CBD from the looks of things, but don't seem to have it under control. There's a lot of smoke and flames -- it's clear even from here that there's little hope of saving the building.

Wooden snowmen protest global warming in Norway

Some students in Norway were asked to "make a wooden object out of plywood and place it somewhere in Oslo" They came up with this great collection of wooden snowmen, to protest agains global warming.

Amnesty International's "It happens not here. But now" campaign involves some cleaver, hauntingly realistic posters. The aim is to "call in consciousness that the human rights in many places are hurt daily."
